Improve Communication Infrastructure & Information Sources for Lompoc Valley

Assess communication infrastructure needs and develop public/private partnerships for more robust news and information networks. The City’s emergency communications do not provide up to date information for residents about real time emergencies leaving people to reply on social media or sites such as Next Door, which can often spread misinformation and confusion. The City’s Safey Element has identified the need to improve and harden the communications infrastructure, while local CBOs have recommended overall improvements in information sharing networks and more reliable news sources. The County’s OEM recently launched a new evacuation map-based mobile app, Genasys

EVAC, that provides residents evacuation warnings or orders for their area, including nearby shelters for people and animals, and road closures. However, this app is not currently available in Spanish.
