Enhance Street Trees and Parks for Heat & Drought Resilience

Study open spaces, public rights-of-ways, and parks for enhanced heat mitigation and cooling options for residents, including opportunities for adding trees and plantings, covered areas, and cooling stations. The City’s Safety Element Update has recommended establishing drought-tolerant green infrastructure projects as a cooling strategy in public and private spaces, and has recommended partnering with CRCD to undertake a heat mitigation/cooling study. Other CBOs also recognize the importance of nearby shade and cooling options for residents.
